How to Show a Neon Sign on Your Shop TV
Turn the screen you already have into a glowing shop sign, without buying a neon tube or installing an app.
What you need
- A screen with a web browser: a smart TV, a streaming stick, a tablet, or a laptop.
- Internet to load the page once. After that the sign keeps running if the connection drops.
- About two minutes.
The quickest way: design on your phone, open on the TV
- On your phone, open neonyes.com and pick a sign from the sign wall.
- Change the words, colors, icon and animation until it looks right.
- Press Copy sign link for your TV.
- Send the link to the TV. Many TV browsers sync bookmarks with your Google or Amazon account, or you can email the link to yourself and open it on the TV.
- The sign opens and starts by itself. Press OK on the remote, or click, to go full screen.
- Bookmark the link on the TV so you can start it in one click every morning.
Smart TVs with a built-in browser
Most Samsung, LG and other smart TVs include a web browser in their apps list. Open it, go to neonyes.com, pick your sign and choose Show on screen. The browser remembers your last design, so next time it is already waiting.
Fire TV Stick
Install a browser from the Amazon Appstore, such as Silk, then open neonyes.com. Use the remote's center button to press Show on screen. Fire TV sticks are cheap, so many shops keep one plugged into the sign TV permanently.
Google TV and Android TV
Install a browser app from the Play Store on the TV or box, then open neonyes.com the same way. If your TV supports casting, you can also cast a Chrome tab from a laptop.
Laptop or mini PC with HDMI
Connect the computer to the TV with an HDMI cable, open neonyes.com in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, and press Show on screen. This gives the smoothest glow, because computers are faster than most TV browsers.
Tablets and old phones
An old tablet on a stand makes a good counter sign, such as Order Here or Free Wi-Fi. Choose Portrait screen in the preview if it stands upright, and keep it plugged in.
Keep the sign running all day
- Turn off the TV's sleep timer and eco mode. Many TVs switch off after a few hours without remote presses. Look for settings named auto power off, sleep timer, or no-signal power off.
- Lower the backlight a little. Neon looks best on a slightly dim screen, and it saves power.
- Choose light glow quality on older TVs. If the animation stutters, the light setting keeps it smooth.
- Set the TV's clock correctly if you use opening hours, because the switch to CLOSED follows the device's clock.
Protect the screen from burn-in
A sign that never changes can leave a faint ghost image on OLED and plasma TVs over months. Neonyes moves the sign a few pixels every few minutes, and the dark walls keep most of the screen dim. Turning the TV off when you close is still the best protection, and the opening hours feature makes the after-hours screen useful when you leave it on.
Make your sign now. It's free and takes a minute.
